Biography

Douglas E. Lierle, President
Lierle Public Relations

Douglas E. Lierle was born and raised in southwest Kansas, working most of his youth on ranches, farms and in feedlots.  A high school and collegiate wrestler, Doug graduated from Kansas State University with a B.S. degree in journalism in 1973.  While at K-State, he was a member of KSU’s rodeo team as a bull rider and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Upon graduation, Doug accepted a position as associate editor for Crow Publications in Anaheim, California, publishers of Western Livestock Journal, Dairy Magazine, and Livestock Magazine.  The company moved its headquarters to Denver in 1974.  Over the next few years, Doug was promoted to managing editor, executive editor, and subsequently publisher of WEAR Magazine (Western Equipment and Apparel Retailer) which he created and managed as a new start-up magazine.  While at Crow, Doug garnered numerous “Oscars in Agriculture” awards for his writing and editing skills.

In January 1980, Doug resigned his position at Crow Publications to pursue a career in public relations.  He married his wife, Ann, that same year and the couple welcomed the birth of their first child and also purchased their first new home during an eventful 12-month period.  Most people would not quit their job, start a new company on peanuts, get married, have a child, and buy a home in the same year…but then again, most people would not ride bulls either.

Over the years, Doug has enjoyed a successful career in public relations, serving the publicity and promotional needs of a diverse group of clients, including engineering firms, software developers, oil and gas companies, geophysical exploration companies, builders and developers, and real estate firms of nearly every conceivable size both public and private.  The rollercoaster ride included several peaks and valleys along the way due to the cyclical nature of the economy in the Denver area and throughout the nation.

An avid outdoorsman, Doug hunts and fishes throughout North America, including annual pheasant, quail and partridge trips to Kansas and North Dakota, wild turkey in Kansas and Colorado, whitetail and mule deer in Kansas, elk in Colorado, salmon and halibut in Alaska, blue marlin and many other species in Maui, Hawaii, with occasional excursions to Canada’s far northern territories for pike, walleye, and grayling.  Doug and Ann have raised three beautiful daughters and currently reside in Lone Tree, Colorado.
